Dave

I have a small network in my business and would like to
elimnate web access for some of the employees/computers.
The machines are running Windows 2000/XP and there
currently is not a domain. It is peer/peer with a file
server.

The machines are connected to the web and the file server
with a linksys dsl router and a set of switches/hubs
behind that.

Is there any hope Obi-Wan Kenobi?

You would need a firewall or proxy server to provide this functionality.

Your Linksys router might have a built-in capability to allow/deny
Internet access to certain computers. Check the user manual.

If it doesn't, assign a static IP address and subnet mask, but no
default gateway or DNS server address, to those machines. Give the
people who use the machines limited user accounts so that they can't
change the TCP/IP settings.

Hi there Dave

Browse Control does this, you can get it from www.browsecontrol.com

Basically it allows you to turn internet totally off, or schedul it so
that it is only on during certain times of day e.g. lunchtime.

You can also have internet partially on e.g. allow access to intranet
or work related web sites.

Hope this helps!
