Networking Win XP Pro with XP Home

Guest

I have a small peer to peer network with a Linksys Router, 1 DSL Modem. 3
machines running XP Home and one with Win98/SE. We use 1 shared network
drive for shared files. All have worked without failure for the last 2 +
years. One of the XP Home machines was swapped for one that runs XP Pro.
The XP Pro machine cannot access the shared drive --- still sitting on one of
the XP home machines. All other machines still work fine. I got the XP Pro
machine to access the shared network drive once , but it stopped working
after it was re-booted.

Kevin,

What exact error message or problem are you observing? Details matter,
particularly in your case.

One of the most common causes of this problem would be a misconfigured or
overlooked personal firewall, or other security component. There are several
other possibilities too, and any might be the cause of your problem. Read this
article with an open mind.

If no help yet, provide "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" from each
computer, so we can diagnose the problem. Read this article, and linked
articles, and follow instructions precisely (download browstat!):
