I have inherited a Word document from an employee that is no longer with us.
The document has a password to open. No one knows what the password is. I
can open the document "read only" and make updates and save it as another
name, but when I save it as another name it still retains the password.

Is there any way that I can get rid of the password on the new versions of
the document that I save?

I am using Microsoft Word 2002 SP3.

Why not "Select All" and then copy it into a blank document?

I think you can open it "read only" and save it under a new name, but when
you save it, go into the Tools--Security Options and delete the password and
uncheck the appropriate boxes.
