Ejecting CD crashes system

Hi
When I eject a data CD from my DVD/CD-ROM drive I get a Blue Screen
saying windows has stopped to prevent damage... 0x0000007e
stop error etc. I let windows report it and got reply it's "driver
related".
I tried to follow the diagnostic advice given in a linked
KB article. I checked for BIOS and driver updates - I didn't find
any on mfg's website. Following the recommended process of
elimination, I found the crash can be prevented by disabling the
"Drive Letter Access Component" using msconfig command- selective
startup - and deselecting tfswctrl.exe in the Startup tab. Trouble is
I loose the ability to add files to a CD which is how I backup.
I uninstalled the Canon Camera s/w added since the last time my CD
drive was still OK. No joy. The drive works OK until I go to eject
either manually of via windows explorer and only data CD's, not music
or installation CD's.
My computer is a Toshiba Satellite L25-S119
running XP Home Sp2, automatically updated.
Any advice w/b greatly appreciated.

Hi, Philo, I am faced with the same problem on booth my computers. It
started after a Windows update installed a new media player & Sonic Digital
Media.
Before I eject the CD I disable DLA and enable it after the CD is out, but
crashes still happen sometimes without doing any harm.

Thank you for replying. Disabling DLA before ejecting seems to work.
And these crashes don't *seem* to do any damage. I was tempted to
RESTORE back to a date before I think the trouble began, but when I
did this once before it screwed up other things, so I guess I'll live
with the small inconvenience.
Wonder if Apple users have to put up with this stuff!
