Hi, I am deploying EFS on XP machines and I have a couple of questions:

1) How long does it take to encrypt 1 Gig of data?
2) Can we encrypt filenames that are saved in Japanese language or foreign
language? Is there a procedure for that?

Thanks.

Whatever you do remember to back up the key. Hang out on these NGs and you
see a lot of people trying to decrypt data and it can't be done.

How long depends on your CPU and how your system is setup. How many
background process' etc. All you can do is try it on one pc and see. File
names aren't encrypted the file is encrypted. What language the file name is
in shouldn't matter.

As Glen says make sure you understand how EFS works before you deploy it. If
something goes wrong you will lose your data, no if, ans or buts, it will
happen. Here are some links to read and understand before you start.

Before you deploy EFS make sure you can encrypt a file on one computer then
copy that file to another computer (not in the same domain if using AD) and
decrypt it on the second computer. If you can't do this then you will lose
data eventually.
