Effects of a "restore" ?

T

Tim

I have an issue with Outlook 2003 not being able to be updated via Windows
update. Consensus of my Google searches say it is probably a registry error
problem. I can not "repair" via either Outlook detect and repair of my
install office cd...both fail...Tried to uninstall just Outlook and that too
failed.

So...I have a number of restore configurations going back a week or two.
My question is if I go with a restore that is say two weeks old when I know
the system was going ok...what happens to the two programs I have installed
since then...BlackBerry desktop for windows and something else ?

Will I have to reinstall them after the system restore...or will they
function normally ?

Should I uninstall them prior to a system restore ?

Thanks in advance...

Hi Tim,

I've seen MSO in general not able to update or repair when either the
whole MSOCache folder was missing, or even individual CAB files.

A Restore would/should bring the app back to its state at the time the
Restore point was created. Sometimes one gets lucky, and it even works
at all.

You can't depend on what will happen. My advice is to make sure you
have a good backup that you have validated. Then it won't matter
whether SR screws up or not, you'll be covered.

No, you WILL have to reinstall them.
Should I uninstall them prior to a system restore ?

That's generally preferable (assuming that the uninstall process won't end
up creating another restore point which could potentially wipe out the old
one you are counting on (if it were the oldest restore point and you're at
the space limit)

As Bill says, uninstall before you restore, then reinstall. For more

Hi Tim,

You have the MSO 2007 Compatibility Pack installed, so the 2007 updates
are for that.

Ok...I am set for automatic update and install so are these 2007 updates the
reason my 2003 Outlook updates are not installing ?

Should I even have 2007 compatibility installed...and if not...how do I
remove it ?

Thanks, Tim

Never mind...I remember now installing the compatibility pack and
why...still...would this have anything to do with the Update for Microsoft
Office Outlook 2003 Junk Email Filter (KB971931) not installing ?

Thanks, Tim

No, it shouldn't. The Compat Pack allows you to use 2007 docx/xlsx
files in MSO 2003.
