Editing Sound files

Hello,

Is there a way to clip and edit downloaded music files?
I want to cut down a sound from 6:02 to 4:23. After I
cut out certain parts of the song, I want to save it
under another file name so that I have the original and
edited version. I have songs in mp3 & wma format. Can I
do this? Do I need a special software? Please help!

Try Audacity, a free audio editor. http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
CDex may also be useful. http://cdexos.sourceforge.net/
