"Setup has detected a newer version of Internet Explorer already installed
on this system.
Setup cannot continue." This is the message I get when trying to re-install
I.E. 6 browser. ..mine is corrupt. The only way I can override this message
is to use the edit registry method. Has anyone tried this, and if
directions are followed correctly, have you encountered any problems? I
know editing the registry is tricky, but if directions are followed
correctly, would there be any problems with the OS?

If you mean the instructions in this article, yes, many people have done it.
Print it out first and follow them carefully. Steve Cochran, for one, has
done it on several versions of Windows.
