Editing .reg file error

D

Darshan Maiya

Whenever I right click on any .reg or .key file and then click edit I get an
access denied error. But when I go to Notepad and open the file or go to
"Open with" and then open the file in notepad I get no such error. How to
rectify this?
Thanks in advance.

Your reply implies that one could edit a (protected) .reg or .key file
in notepad without being logged on as an administrator. Is that really true?

Yes. Start Orb>Search>type: notepad
When Notepad appears in Results above, right-click it and choose "Run as
administrator". Now you will have an elevated Notepad. Open the file(s) you
want to edit, make your changes, and you will be able to save them. Just
like in Linux/Unix, I almost never log into an administrative account in
Vista. Just elevate from within your daily Standard account. Obviously you
must know an administrative password and if your computer is a workstation
on a domain, you probably don't.

I would like to make it clear that there is only one account in my pc and
hence the question of administrator doesn't arise.

You are not the Administrator. You have to elevate to the Administrator mode

Please begin a new thread to ask such OT questions, Jeff. Thanx
