i would like to cut a track in half ( audio book ) so that i can put it on
my mp3 player...any way to do that?

You could either split a full-time file into two half-time files, or change
the MP3-compression thus that the whole would fits the space on your player
(at the cost of sound quality).

Try Audacity, freeware, http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
