Edit Reports Design in Mulit User Env.

Hello Experts,

this seems simple but not sure how to do it. I have two databases with some
tables linked to each other. One database I use heavily along with an admin
person that helps with the data entry part. I want to be able to edit reports
design while she's doing the data entry part. I am aware of the BE FE
business but not sure if that's the way to do it

Up to around Access 97, you could edit reports and forms while someone else
was using the database. No longer.

In your case I'd consider first splitting the database in FE/BE as it's
always a good idea. Then I'd create a FE just for your to do data entry. I'd
create another FE just for you to create, edit, and run reports.

so 2 FEs and 2 BEs. but would they talk to each other then?

how about the linked table i have that point to the other database

Yes, front-end/back-end is definitely the way to go (assume you do it
properly, so that each user has his/her own copy of the front-end, ideally
on his/her hard drive). You can make changes to your heart's content
without impacting anyone else, and then push out a new copy of the front-end
when you're happy with it.

No: 1 BE, with as many FEs talking to it as is appropriate.

OK in theory I get it. but now when I use the db splitter it only creates a
BE copy. I assume that the original db is the FE one? how do I install an FE
copy on each user's PC. How do I push out new copies?

An mdb file is simply a file. You copy to their hard drive like any other
file.

thanks. alot of it is making sense now

one last question (hopefully). My original DB has tables that are linked to
another db. The db splitter wizard did not work I assume because of the
linked table. I think what would be the best way to split the db manually
while keeping the linked tables to the other db and all of the relationships?
