When I click and drag a desktop icon the icon left aligns or is positioned to the left when moving (I don't mean the final resting place for the icon, I mean when dragging it) How can I change this?

For one, it's difficult when dragging items to the recycle bin because it misses and re-arranges all of my icons. Secondly, something changed that I didn't do intentionally so I would like to know what and how.

Select Icon, Press Delete, End of problem.

Right-click empty spot on Desktop->Arrange icons by...->Auto Arrange

The active point when dragging is the tip of the arrow, you need to have the
arrow over the recycle bin not the icon you are dragging. I don;t know of
any setting that changes how the icon is positioned when dragging and yes I
do understand the question
