Why not just clone your original hard drive? If you purchased the new drive
retail, it will have come with a utility to do this. If you bought whitebox
or the drive didn't come with the utility, get it from the drive mftr.'s
website. You'll create bootable media by burning the file you download as
an image, not as data. Then boot with it with both hard drives connected.
Clone the original drive to the new one. Shut down. Remove the original
drive and put the new one in its place. Start up.
You can then shut down and install the original drive in second place for
storage if you like and format it from within Administrative Tools>Disk
Management in Windows.
it's possible to transfer files and settings using Windows Easy Transfer to
a new HD, CD, and DVD.
