The default destination drive for my files on my new PC appears to be "D".
The problem is that the "D" drive has been designated as the "restore" drive
and is only 8 gigs. How can I change the drive to "C" where I have 300 gigs
just waiting to accept all these files?

Hello,
Thanks for posting. It sounds like you have a question about mapping drives
and Windows Easy Transfer.

Drive redirection is only an option if Windows Easy Transfer detects that
the drive names on your old and new computers don't match. If both computers
have the same drive letters, you will not see this page. Instead,
information on each drive on your old computer will be transferred to the
respective drives on your new computer. If you would like to create new
drives or increase drive space on your new computer, do it before starting
the transfer.

For more information, take a look at this Help topic about Windows Easy
Transfer:
http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/Help/7b685952-1ed0-4582-810c-4ceb1932c3db1033.mspx

Please let me know if I can provide further assistance on this problem.

Sincerely,
Byron

My problem is similar, but more complicated. I was not aware that the
transfer would match up drives, and now my restore drive is full. I can't
seem to access the details to see what I can delete. The disk clean-up has
been done. I have 23.3 MB free on a 8.37GB drive. What do I do?

Your 'restore drive' is for only one purpose -- restoring your computer
after some catastrophic thing prevents you from doing anything else. It
typically contains the info needed to create restore CD/DVDs and is accessed
during bootup perhaps by some F key. Some brands hide this partition but
others don't.

What brand and model is your computer? Perhaps someone with the same system
can post the contents of their restore drive so you know what to delete.

Thanks for the update. It's an e-machine T5088. My old one is a Compaq.
Looking at the restore drive, when I double click on the only icon, a lock
symbol, the Compaq logo pops up with a warning not to delete or open it. My
guess is that was transfered from the old computer. What I don't know if
there is anything else emachines may have put into this drive, because
nothing is visible. There are 2 hidden files, but they are like 20KB each,
so they don't seem to be anything important.
I did try tech support but the tech couldn't help. I'll go back an escalate
to a senior tech and see if that helps. I do not have a recovery disk,
otherwise I would be willing to just put it back to original factory
condition. The restore points did nothing to the d drive. Any ideas out
there?
