I've never seen a duck with so many chicks. At first I thought some of them must belong to another family but this was the only mother around and sure enough when she paddled off along the stream all seventeen followed her along. :)

Not sure what the record is for the number of chicks.

The average is 13 per "mom" for the Martin Mere Mallards, not surprising considering how well protected they are ... on the fringes, it varies.

Sweet.

Seeing that, springtime, makes me feel good.

Think I'll wander over Greenwich Park soon and see how our local duck/goose/peahen population is doing :)
