East Asian Languages install prob

Guest

I am trying to install the languages Japanese and Chinese (Mandarin) to write
and read onto XPpro US version. The XP disc came with the pc (Dell) but can't
install the files. I have Office XP but that apparently doesn't have the
latest version of IME according to some posts... correct me if i am wrong.

Here's what i have done below:
Regional and Language options | Languages | Supplement Language Support.
Having trouble installing "Install files for East Asian Languages". I ticked
the box and I was prompted to click OK or apply. XP searched for my XP disc
and I inserted it into the cdrom. XP tried to copy the files such as
"...i386/lang/imjpst.dic" but an error came up:

ERROR: Windows could not copy the appropiate files.

I've tried to reboot and still nothing. Now what? Can I download the files
or something? Need these features/files for uni...

Help please.

Hi,

Try contacting Dell support, and enquire if they have the East Asian Language pack as a separate download. (FYI: HP issues a SoftPaq for Compaq/HP systems. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericSoftwareDownloadIndex?lc=en&cc=us&softwareitem=33804 )

This happened to me, and this is what I did:

In my case, the file was imjpzp.dic - I already installed the IME before, and that file got damaged (the IME froze when I tried to choose the kanji). I tried to uninstall, but when I tried to install again, I got the same error as you.

The problem is, that when you uninstall the IME, windows doesn't remove the dictionary files. So maybe the dictionary you mention (imjpst.dic) is damaged. Try going to C:\WINDOWS\ime\IMJP8_1\DICTS and manually delete imjpst.dic - then try to install again.

Tell me if it works.
