Hi there,

I am very new Epson 4490 user; I've bought to scan my 120 film negatives
but at the very beginning I encountered a problem.

The problem is from time to time, in a random manner, I can't select
negative as a source for the scan; only non-transparent medias are
selectable, the negative is either grayed out or it simply does not occur
in the menu. I know the scanner works fine for I scanned two or three
frames and they seemed okish regarding my novice skills at the scanning.
The reboot helped just once, now even three reboots do not help. It looks
as the scanner "behaves" as your average flatbed scanner that only scans
documents and prints. The "transport" switch is uncloked, of course.

Gosh, I am frustrated. I've read the user guide, in particular the
troubleshooting section and wasn't able to find the single tip for my
problem. Has *anyone* ever faced such a problem? I am sure it's me not the
scanner and any hints are deeply appreciated.

The solution: put the lid plug into the socket *really* hard; it may be
hard to accomplish - the distance between two sockets is, say, 6 inches
whereas the cable has 8 inches. But once plugged hard, it does the job.
