With all the news lately about "The Passion of the Christ" movie, I thought
there might be some people interested in an excellent freeware bible program
that can be used to learn about God.

From the website:

http://www.e-sword.net/

e-Sword is a fast and effective way to study the Bible.
e-Sword is feature rich and user friendly with more capabilities than you
would expect in a free software package. The fact that e-Sword is free is
just one of the blessings and does not speak of the quality of the software.
I make my living writing software and I believe I have put forth my best
effort in this endeavor. The real work, however, was put in by the godly men
and women who devoted countless years creating the texts that have been made
available for our benefit.

Here is a web site about the long struggle between humanism and creationism
which has been going on for thousands of years.

I've never heard of Gideon hunting down anybody that took the written manual
from a motel room. You know, that printed out version called the Bible.

/slinks off aware of how right the teachers were when proclaiming uglier

I use it and it's great! The free copy of 'The Message' (a
contemporary paraphrase) is well worth the price of admission...which
is,..........FREEEEE!

Beatiful piece of software! and can also serve as a reader for any
file utilizing the STEP format.

The Gideons don't mind if bibles are taken from hotel rooms.
They supply each hotel with extra copies to cover any loss of bibles.
They also re-visit each hotel once a year to review the condition of every
single bible, and replace them as needed, and restock the surplus.

This is a study bible program. It has many different bible translations and
commentaries. It includes dictionaries and maps. The GUI is customizable
and it is a very useful well written freeware program. If anyone here reads
the Bible, they would do well to download and use this program. I like the
search tool for when I want to look up a phrase or particular word.

Who knows? The Gideons might start leaving CDs of this around hotel rooms
for those of us who don't read books anymore.

While on the subject of bibles, you might like to look at a site I stumbled
upon:
http://ambaka.com/index.html
Tim's Illuminated Bible in Basic English with 3,000 Fractal and Genetic Art
Illustrations.
If nothing else, it can claim to be different.

Thnaks for that Frank, some really fascinating paintings etc there...John
Good companion to e-sword is http://www.bible.org/ Net Bible. Lots of
commentaries and research materials. It even has a couple of resources
that gives you transliteration and teaches text critical analysis.
One of the better resources outside of a seminary with a full set of Kittle.
