E-mail notification prpblem

I am using XP, I have Outlook and Outlook Express. I use a hotmail account to
send/recieve e-mail. When I log off to switch users or log on, under my
personal icon it tells me I have a e-mail message at my hotmail account, but
I dont. I would like to know why it is saying this and how to fix it. Thank
you.
