E-Mail not working anymore

Hi,

Yesterday afternoon (Friday) I was able to connect to my usual POP3 server to
get my mail, but this morning (Saterday) I'm unable to connect to it anymore and
I get this error from either Outlook or Outlook Express :

"Task 'mail.cablevision.qc.ca - Receiving' reported error (0x80040900) : 'The
server name you entered can not be found on the network (it might be down
temporarily). Please verify that you are online and that the server name is
correct.'"

And this is the only problem that I have with the network, I can browse the Net
without any problem

BTW. When I connect using my laptop computer everything works perfectly, but
from eiter desktop I get the above mentioned error, one desktop is using a
wireless NIC, and the other is connected directly to the router

1st - did you check on you ISP's maintenance page to see it they have
scheduled downtime and/or an outage?

If it works on one computer and not the other, then it is most likely not
the isp servers. Try deleting the email account out of your mail program
completely, close the app, then open it back up and enter in your account
info.

Hi,

This host name does not appear to be valid on the Internet. DNS lookup
does not resolve it. Have you changed it? It may be a private server
of your service provider I guess.

Cheers,

Cliff

If you've read to the end I stated that when I'm using the laptop with the same
E-Mail setup everything works fine, but on both desktop it can not find the POP,
I still can send E-Mail using my setup but not receiving any, at least not using
the desktops

I have done that, and I even open another account on my computer that had no
E-Mail set in it , and tried to set mine up in that account, but I get the same
error.

I even tried to go back 2 days using the System Recovery, which in the past
corrected some problem, but the E-Mail problem remained

I haven't made any change ever since I got that ISP, and until Friday evening it
was working fine, and on my laptop I have the same configuration and Outlook
send and receive mail normally, but the desktops can only send but not receive

Call your isp and see if they can help you. I pinged the server you listed
and it seems to be working.

Problem solved, they had a problem with there DNS server, and thus I was unable
to resolve the address, and since the portable hadn't been rebooted since before
the trouble occured, it was able to find the server
