e-mail gets stuck

when receiving mail my system gets stuck on certain messages lets say for
example message 26 out of 40 new messages. no matter what i do i can't get
past it.

That usually indicates a corrupt message on the server.
Log on to your webmail site, and delete the one that's "stuck".
