E-mail attachment issues?

Over the last 18 months I have had continual problems with my e-mails when my
system is automatically updated with a patch or Microsoft software updates.
This has happened again (update 11/08/2006). When I send an e-mail to
someone with an attachment, the attachment either cannot be opened or the
extension on the attachment has changed (.pdf to .dat) for some reason or the
recipient has lost the icon to open the attachment even though the attachment
has been downloaded and is still attached to the e-mail. Can anyone help?

Frustrated and not happy Jan.

Cheers

Is Word your email editor?

Is this a Windows patch? Is Office fully patched?

I am running Outlook 2000 on W98 (yes I know it's old) and since I had a new
motherboard (and updates) 14 months ago I am having similar problems with
some people either not receiving attachments, receiving in .dat format or not
being able to open them. Mine are usually .doc or pdf files. I run on rich
text, do not use word as email editor and have no other problems. I have been
advised to use plain text and I am exploring this. Help would be appreciated.
