e mail aliases

I run Outlook 2003 and have one main e mail account for work and an alias for
personal.
Each time I receive an e mail I get two copies. Is there any way of setting
the system up so that only one copy is received?

Configure Outlook to NOT leave messages on the server. I'm assuming you
are using POP. You never did mention WHAT type of e-mail client you are
using (POP, IMAP, HTTP, Exchange).

Look in the Outlook Help Files: Work with POP3 messages on multiple
computers

It's an attribute of the e-mail account that you defined inside of
Outlook. Go look at your e-mail accounts. In the advanced settings is
an option to "Leave messages on server" (or something similarly named).
Make sure it is off.

That now works fine on my office PC, but will it mean that if I view a
message on my PC it will be deleted from the server before I can view it on
my laptop using Outlook web access or vice versa?

If your have to accounts defined and the addresses in those accounts are
aliases of each other, configure your send/receive group to receive on only
one of the accounts.

If you're using POP, Outlook Web Access doesn't apply. That's only for
Exchange mailboxes. You can't access a POP account with OWA.

You have just ONE mailbox which has 2 aliases to it. So what you see is
exactly how it will work. If you want to separate your work and
personal e-mails then don't have them share the same mailbox. You'll
probably find your employer doesn't want you using their company's
resources to store your personal e-mails. Get your own separate
personal-use account and use that for personal e-mails.

Alternatively, find out if your employer provides IMAP access to your
account at their mail server. Not likely but some companies provide
IMAP access. IMAP lets you access the same account from multiple e-mail
clients, like when travelling. However, because you are defining 2
accounts within the SAME e-mail client that access the same mailbox, you
will still see duplication of e-mails because, well, you duplicated the
mailbox in the e-mail accounts you defined in Outlook.
