E: & F: drives don't respond

for a few months now, my E: & F: drives will not read. we
got a new F: drive, but after a couple of days, this
stopped working too. my computer is very slow too, do you
think iv'e got a virus? how do i get my drives to work
again, do you think i've got to clear my computer
completley? i've defraged recently (took a whole day!),
what else can i do?? please help, driving me mad!!
 
What kind of drives are E and F supposed to be?

Are they correctly identified in the BIOS?
