Dynex USB 2.0 PCMCIA not working

T

Tom Libby

I just installed a Dynex USB 2.0 PCMCIA card into two of
my laptops, a Compaq N800C and a Dell Inspiron 7500.
Windows XP Pro on the Compaq and Windows 2003 Server on
the Dell. Both versions of Windows finds and installs
the card but whenever I plug in my USB hard drive or my
digital camera there is no indication in windows that
anything is plugged into it.

If I plug the two devices into the USB 1.1 port that is
on the machine then I see the device. And with the hard
drive windows informs me that a highspeed device has been
plugged into a non-highspeed port and to switch it to one
of the highspeed ports and lists the available ports.

Any ideas on what needs to be done to get this to work.
I am trying to get hold of Dynex tech support but so far
they are unreachable.

Thanks
Tom

My nephew had the exact same problem. Turns out that there is a small
circular connector in between the two USB connectors on the card.
There was a cable that connects the circular connector to one of the
USB 1.1 connectors on the laptop. He did that and was able to access
his USB 2 device (an external hard drive). Neither he nor I saw
anything in the manual (such as it was) about that. HTH.
