hello, i installed a new disk on my win xp machine. and i created a dynamic
disk, by mistake. how do i turn it into a basic disk? i have search for hours
on the net with no luck. any suggestions would be of great help. especially
step-by-step instructions!

thanks,
tom

ps - it is new there is no data on the disk.

Short answer, you can't. Not without wiping it clean of all volumes and
doing a revert.

I personally am a big fan of symantecs gdisk used from a win98 boot disk.

thanks manny, that's what i'm asking...how do i wipe the volumes and do a
revert?

Under Disk Management, right click in the square that says

Disk 1
Dynamic

There should be the revert to basic selection.
