Hello,
Whenever I shut down my computer, I get an error message
saying something about dwwin.exe. Is there any way to
make it quit doing this?

I posted this as a reply to someone else earlier but it
hasn't shown up so I'll repost in hopes that it triggers
someone to think of an answer.

I've searched for hours concerning this quirk since I
posted my first message here and still haven't found a
solution. Different things seem to work for different
people. The only thing that I have found that's common
with many other posts is Norton Anti-Virus. I don't have
a game pad, any Logitech products or Norton Utilities
which are programs mentioned by people with this problem
but I do have NAV as do many. The most extensive
discussion I've found is at "Annoyances.org."

Here's another site with quite a large discussion on
dwwin.exe.

It's become fairly obvious that a Windows XP patch has
something to do with it. People with a Gravis Gamepad or
a Norton product seem to be most affected. One message I
read, the person said they'd talked to Symantec about it
but the company denied that Norton had anything to do
with it. Another person said they had the solution in
German. Here's part of that post incase anyone reading
this can translate and make it work.

With the following tips the problem is solved. You may
download the articles as follows:

RBID=2&TID=711&URBID=12
(It's in german but referring to Microsoft Newsgroup, so
if there are any translation
problems you find there the original english one (i hope
so).

(This one is in English)

On WinXP Prof., german version, I did it in the way
discribed in theses articles
(first the german, than the english) an the problem is
solved.
(End of Post)

I'm disappointed that Microsoft hasn't addressed this
problem in their knowledge base. More and more people are
complaining about it. Again, if anyone has any ideas
please post them here or email me. As always I would
welcome any help!
