DWT's becoming detached

Twice now I have found that some of my webpages, in my local PC's copy of my
webite, have mysteriously become detached from their DWT's. Furthermore, all
of the editable regions of the DWT's have been deleted. Obviously I am
certain that I haven't chosen to detach/delete, so I presume there's a bug.
Does anyone recognise this problem / know how this might have happened / know
a solution?
My site is hosted on an ISP's server with FP extensions enabled. Each time I
want to update the remote site I make the changes on my local PC and then
publish to the server.

Thanks, but I always work with the site open. To clarify my original post ...
the pages have become permanantly detached from the DWTs. And the editable
regions have permanently vanished from both the DWT's and the pages that I
linked to them.
Hence, I am left with:
(i) DWTs with no defined editable regions.
(ii) Pages which have taken-on all of the formatting, text & picture
elements of the DWT's, and they contain things that I placed in the editable
regions of those pages (when they had editable regions). But now that the
DWT's have become detached the webpages are entirely editable.

My first guess is that you are opening individual pages without opening the
web site first.
