Problems with DWT

L

Landra Jenkins

Hello, I have made a DWT page with a layout table. it has
5 cells, which are all editable regions. top, left,
right, middle, and bottom. Now I make a new page with
text and pictures on it and attach it to my DWT in
the "middle" editable region. Everything looks great. The
problem is when I make a change to my DWT and update
attached pages, they don't reflect the changes. And when
I try to detach the DWT nothing appears to happen, The
page still reflects the text and pictures with the look
of the DWT. I should be left with just the text and
pictures right? I don't know why my changes in the DWT
aren't updating on the attached pages. Any advice would
be great.

Thank You,
Landra

Howdy.

Are you performing these edits on a Web server running
the FrontPage Server Extensions?

Because the most recent version of the extensions is
2003, they don't support DWTs, which are new in FrontPage
2003.

The DWT are only supported (applying and automatic updating) locally when working with a disk-based
web (c:\..) or on a Windows IIS 6 server running WSS.

Thomas -

Where did you find this info about what dwts would work
with? Is this published somewhere on the Microsoft site
or in their literature? Or is this what NewsGroups are
for?

Thanks

Oh... this is really important then. I just want to be sure I understand.

I currently have an old theme based web. I work directly on the server.

I just bought a DWT template. If I understand you correctly, I will not be able to work this way with the DWT? I have to work off of my hard drive and then publish the site to the server each time I make changes?

So, for the long view, will there ever be FP extensions that support DWTs? Or, should this not be a concern for me? My site is really big for a personal site, and I do not want to proceed with something that may be more work than it is worth.

Hi Adela,

One workaround to working live on a server with DWT's...If you have all the
pages open, that are using the DWT..and then edit the DWT page itself...it
will update all of those pages using it..and you will need to resave each
page. This is doable if the number of pages are somewhat limited. Any pages
using it that are not open will not be updated.

I believe Sharepoint servers will update all pages using DWT's when you
save. The above is for non-Sharepoint.

There are no plans to update the FP2002 extensions to support any new features of FP2003.
