dwt editable regions

I am unable to write in an UNeditable region on a htm page that has a .dwt
page associated with it? Should this be this way?

I don't want every section to have editble regions. What if I only want to
use 4/5 (.dwt) areas of a .htm page and keep the main body free for different
content across several pages. This doesn't make sense.

Please advise.

Thanks

my follow up: Let's say I have 5 editable regions. Can I only update one or
two editable regions and not every editable region associated with .dwt page
if I do not want a region (area) to change?

This is my concern.

Thanks.

No, you can't have editable regions that are not editable. Just because a region is editable,
doesn't mean you have to edit it.
The regions that are not editable, must be updated in the DWT and then all pages, updates using the
DWT.

So if I have a .dwt template and it has a top, left menu, bottom and center
editable regions. And the center has different content on every page of site
and I make changes to editable regions to the top and left menu, the center
editable regions of all pages on site will remain as is, for example center
content of Page B won't get the content of Page A)?

Thanks,

Editable regions allow you to edit the content for each individual page from the individual page.

Non-editable regions must be updated directly in the DWT, then the DWT re-applied to the site/pages

So then, what would you use for pages you want to have consistent look
throughout site, ie: top portion, left menu of page? Editable or NON editable?

I thought it was editable to dwt then when making change, you make one
change and apply to many pages? Is this correct??

Before when I tried to add content to center section of page it wouldn't let
me unless it was editable region...And I wasn't sure that if the center has
different content on every page of site and I make changes to editable
regions to the top and left menu, WILL the center editable regions of all
pages be applied to all pages, for example center content of Page B will now
be on the content of Page A?? YES or NO

<<Non-editable regions must be updated directly in the DWT, then the DWT
re-applied to the site/pages>>

If regions are updated directly to DWT and then I reapply dwt to all pages,
won't the info on entire dwt be applied to all regions of x amount of pages
and what if I don't want to change the center content

Is this confusing or could it be just me? I do see many dwt questions on
here. I will have to play around with it and see.
Thanks again.

Header, Footer and Menu would be Non-editable from individual pages, only editable directly in the
DWT file.

Yes, that is correct when you edit the actual DWT file.
YES or NO

The content section that you want to be able to edit on a per page basis, must be a editable region

Changes you make to the Non-editable regions of the DWT file will update the Non-editable regions of
all pages associated with the specific DWT file.
