DVDs won't play

Using WinXP Home, 1024 RAM, 2.8mHz, 15" flat screen, nVidia GeForce2 MX400
video adapter, I can't get DVDs to play. They used to play just fine before
I had to reinstall WinXP. I've even installed the new version of PowerDVD
thinking that the DVDs would be associated directly with an application, and
that didn't help. Really at a lose and would appreciate some assistance.
Thank you

If you open PowerDVD can you select the DVD drive?

Maybe these steps will help: go to My Computer
and right click the icon for your DVD Drive and
choose...Properties / AutoPlay tab / open the drop
window and choose...DVD Movie / tick...Select
an action to perform / select...Play DVD Movie using
PowerDVD / Apply / OK.
