What about sound from regular CDs? If that's gone too, be sure you connected
the audio cable between the drive to the sound card.

Hello!

I have a wierd problem.
I have an older system (2000),P III 800 VIA Apollo Pro 133 and I have Win
XP.
So I recently bought LG DVD-ROM drive and it works fine, just no sound ONLY
when I try to play DVD discs on it.But,say, when I try to play MP3's,it plays
them fine.How come?
I use Windows Media Player 10.
BTW,I kinda installed the driver from a bundle CD that came with a drive, but
in driver's properties it shows Microsoft 2001.
May be should also get a newer driver or problems somewhere else?

You must note that the audio cable is not required when the audio is played in
"digital mode".

Correct. But, with that older machine it was one variable that was easily
eliminated.

I didn't mean to imply that at all! Gotta start with the simple stuff,
that's the first troubeshooting step when I can't see into your computer
myself.

But anyway, Yves is correct, you don't really need one these days. Lots of
computers don't have them at all. I was taking an angle that maybe you'd get
audio if it was there, even if the root cause of the problem is a driver or
the DVD app. I guess that angle didn't pan out.

Hey!

I simply installed XP codec 2.0.1. and now I do have sound.
Though there's another issue...The picture is too dark.Even nVIDIA software
brightness control doesn't have any effect on it.
And Win Media player brightness control don't move from 0 position...
