DVD-RW drive won't read CDS

I have a Dell installed DVD-RW Drive( Phillips 8631) which won't read
data cds. I ran diagnostic tests on the drive and they passed. The
drive will play audio cds, and some data CDS, but not many. For
example, the Microsoft CDs don't read. Fortunately, I have a DVD drive
also, which will read all the CDS.

Suggestions?

Try cleaning the lens. If that doesn't work than the laser is bad and it's
time to buy another drive.
