DVD-RW DRIVE NOT RECOGNIZED PLEASE HELP!!!

I decided yesterday to replace the CD-ROM drive in my new compute
with a DVD-RW drive from my old computer. during/after POST I wa
alerted that I had made the following system changes

-Upgraded from 512MB RAM to 1GB (i did
-Replaced old CD drive with DVD-RW driv

I was asked to save changes and the computer rebooted (I'm runnin
WinXP SP1). After I had logged on and attempted to use the DVD-R
drive to see if it worked, there was apparently power to the drive
but it showed up under My Computer as "DVD-R Drive (D:)
and did not recognize any media placed into it.

I'm not too sure if this has to do with the IDE cable because othe
drives work fine, I'm thinking this has more to do with the driv
itself. I initially thought I was missing a driver and that XP ha
labeled it generic DVD-R drive, and I searched driverguide.com (th
drive is a NEC ND1300-A) but the only thing that came up was
firmware upgrade, which I tried anyway to no avail. I had left th
drive sitting on my desk for about 3 months or so between computers
not quite sure if that factors in anywhere..
