DVD-RW and CD-RW not working after installing upgrades

After installing WinXP SP1 and all critical updates available, my new
DVD-RW (Memorex) and old CD-RW (Iomega ZipCD) are not working anymore.
They are correctly listed in the BIOS (on IDE2 as DVD Master/CD Slave)
and WinXP finds them as new hardware and installs drivers. They don't
show up as selectable drives. Looking up the Control Panel (marked
with !) it says that the drivers are corrupt. Now, I de-installed all
CD/DVD related software as suggested in some other posts - no luck.
I've booted with different BIOS settings and upgraded to the latest
BIOS - nothing.

I've had the CD-RW drive in this machine for a while and it worked
just fine. The new DVD-RW worked as well...until I installed WinXP SP1
and all other updates.

Any ideas? Or do I have to de-install SP1 to get all my stuff working
again...?

Thanks for any and all help.
