dvd rom drive

i have been having trouble with my dvd rom drive reading dvds. i would like
to flash it with new firmware. i think ive figured out how to reboot xp into
dos, but i now need to find out whether its primary, secondary, slave, master.
i also have a plextor drive. i assume the hard drive is primary master, but
need help with the dvd drive. how do ifind this info? thanks da

At the beginning of the boot process you have the ability to enter the
CMOS setup (BIOS). Do so and check the drives here, it should show you
where the DVD drive is connected to.
