dvd rom and cd rw error code 19

hi i hope someone can help ive exhausted every idea i can
think of i have a laptop with an internal dvd drive and
an external cd rw when the external drive was loaded onto
the laptop with burning software both drives failed to
work and failed to show up in my computer but do show up
in device manager but have a problem and cant be
accessed. the error code that goes with the problem is
error code 19 your registry might be corrupted :- a
problem with the serial.sys driver not laoding when the
computer is started because a lack of a multiple port
serial adapter.

ive tried correcting this and gave up then i tried just
formatting the hardrive so i could reinstall the o/s..
failed... i cant access fdisk and the machine wont boot
from floppy.

if anyone has experienced this problem before then i
would appreciate any help you can give. the external
drive that was installed is an archos usb minicdrw
thanks shaun

Hey man,
If you can use the internal or original cd then
reinstall it and then go into bios and make sure that it
is detected. If it works then i think you would have some
kind of program or key combo that would let you switch the
drives around. If that doesnt work then if the cd drive
will work then put the win2k disk in and make sure that
the bios is set to boot from cd then boot. You can
reinstall or repair the drive or install and format the
drive. You will lose all data from harddrive if you format
drive. You may be able to reinstall without losing
everything. If you need to save data, just put new
partition in, then save the data you want, then format it.

thanks for the idea but both the internal and external
optical disk drives are affected by the error code 19
problem so i cant use either on top of that i cant access
the bios settings i can change the boot sequence to
detect the cd first but it wont boot from cd until the
error is resolved :-(
