I have a built in DVD player in my computer. It has simply stopped reading
any of my DVDs. The computer say that there is no disc/CD/DVD in the the
drive. aAny comments or suggestions?

Make sure the power and ide cable is securely attched at
both ends. Check the device manager and see if the dvd
drive shows up. If it does delete it and reboot and see if
Windows finds the drive and reinstalls it. If it's not
there and the cables are all plugged in then the drive is
most likely toast. If you bur y a new drive I recomend a
dual layer burner.

I have recently encountered a similar if not identical problem. Will your
drive read CDs? Mine will... but fails on any DVD. Bad news is that I have
been trying to correct it for a week without any luck.

That would indicate a bad laser. Different lasers read the CD vs the DVD.
Time for a replacement drive.
