DVD playing on XP

Joss

Hi, I have only just updated from win98 to XP pro and find I can no
longer play DVD's that i have bought over the last few years.

I have tried WMP, Classic and Nero players but to no avail.

How does one play a DVD on XP?

Thank you

Jos

I suspect that you no longer have the dvd decoder needed. Windows
does not supply this.

By default, Windows does not include a DVD decoder:

For more information about DVD decoders, see:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/plugins.aspx#DVDDecoder

You were probably able to play DVDs in Win98 because you may have
installed a DVD decoder if you installed a DVD-ROM that came with
playing software, or, the OEM Win98 CD included this.

See my reply, below. I meant to reply to you, but mistakenly replied
to Dee.

If you have a DVD player application that came with your pc, or that
came with a DVD-ROM that you installed, just install that particular
program. All you need is one DVD decoder on your pc, and WMP will
share it just fine.

If you still need a codec search for FreeCodecs and download a codec pack.
Windows Media Player 6.4 codec pack from freecodecs works fine with XP Home
Edition.
