Why can't I play dvd movies on my PC? Windows XP SP2 2000. My PC is only 1
year old and I think I have all the right components to play a dvd, but it
just doesn't seem to read it at all. I can play music cd's ok. Any answers
greatly appreciated. Cheers

Hi Jenny,

Assuming you have a DVD drive, do you have DVD decoder software installed?
If not, then you could either purchase a software decoder, such as:

CyberLink PowerDVD

or
InterVideo WinDVD
http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/us/en/Product/1181657926954

or you could give the free VLC Media Player a try

How do I find out if I have dvd decoder software?

Well, have you ever tried to play a dvd movie before? if no and it is not
working now then you don't have the proper software installed....simple no?
If yes and it worked before and its not working now then reinstall the
software.

I take offence at your sarcastic remarks, why does everyone talk to you like
you are simpleton? I am a beginner at this and yes, I might ask some real
basic questions, but hey, we all have to start somewhere!
