Hi there!

Since having installed Windows XP, there's something wrong with my
DVD-ROM-Drive (Toshiba) or my soundcard (Creative Audigy Platinum) - or
both. When I play DVD-Videos, there isn't any sound.

My first guess was ASPI drivers, so I installed some Adaptec. It enabled
at least my MP3 grabbing software to read audio digitally, which was
also impossible before.

But there is still no sound when playing DVD.

Strangely, audio CDs are played correctly, yet they are treated as wave
data. (?) Enabling or disabling the "CD digital" and "CD audio" bars in
the audio properties doesn't have any impact on it, but changing the
"wave"-bar does.

It can't be a hardware problem, because I changed nothing about my
computer but the OS (from Win ME to Win XP). I have already updated my
sound card drivers, but to no avail.

Anyone an idea?

thx in advance

:) Alexander

If you feel that it may be something to do with your ASPI
drivers, have you loaded the ASPI 32-bit Layer Drivers?
If you have not, then many of the devices that require
ASPI will not function properly. You can pick this up
from the Adaptec site. If you've already performed this
you might try getting or updating your device drivers for
the audio, I've noticed that there are some differences
for different sound devices when you migrate from ME to XP.

Hi,
I have a Creative Soundblaster Live card and could hear the background
sounds but not the voices on DVDs - no matter which player. I had updated
the Windows XP drivers with the LiveDrive UniPack from Creative. What fixed
the sound was going into ControlPanel>AudioHQ and turning off 4-speaker and
surround sound . You have a different card but it sounds like a similar
problem - try messing around in AudioHQ and it may help.
