DVD not working

I had a CD drive not working (would not eject) so I replaced it, with a
brand new IBM DVD drive. After a few uses, It also is not working, same
ploblem. I have to use a paper clip on the emergency eject thing. This
makes me wonder if there is something else going on that I can look
for, maybe something in the OS (XP)? Some other hardware issue? I'm not
really sure where to look though. Any ideas?

Yeah, unlikey that you'd get the same fault with two drives so quickly.
maybe something in the OS (XP)?

I'd image the current boot drive, do a clean reinstall
of XP and see if that fixes the problem. If it does,
use the files and settings transfer wizard to get the
files and settings from the original XP install across.
Some other hardware issue?

Guess it might concievably be bad caps on the motherboard.
That can give the weirdest symptoms at times. Those are the
usually blue or green plastic covered post like things sticking
up vertically from the motherboard. Check if any of the tops
are bulging or even leaking. They should be all flat.
I'm not really sure where to look though. Any ideas?

Cant say I have ever seen that result.
