DVD Firmware pop-up

Every time I boot up my PC I get a pop-up titled "DVD
Check"
"New firmware is available for your DVD writer drive. Do
you want to download it now"
It has been going on for about 2 weeks now and I do not
want to install or download it for fear that it might
corrupt something. Is there any way to get rid of this
message ?

You need to find the software that was installed with your DVD drive and
find the option to disable checking for updates.
