NEC 3500 series seem to get good reports. later DVD players should cope OK.

This is the best source I know of to compare writers to each other.
Thousands of reviews and comments by users make it relatively easy to choose
a good reliable writer.

For myself I favor NEC, Pioneer and Plextor

Some DVD stand alone players will play divx movies, many will not.
You'll need to check on the individual player to find out if it does for
your needs.

it does, i checked that first, my concern was is it able to read 2 different
movies from one dvd? , will they run consecutively like an old video?

When you buy your dvd burner, be sure it handles dual layer technology.
I've had good results with Verbatim brand media--better than Ridata for me.
Have NOT burned movies, but have used them for like 8 gig data successfully.
Their capacity is 8.4 gig. HTH s
