Looking for help regarding dvd read only drives. Installed a dvd drive
around 1 year ago and it was working normally for about 6 months. One
day for whatever reason, it stopped reading dvd movies. My dvd drive
can still read cdrom's & games on dvd, it will not recognize any
dvd movies, infact it doesnt recognize any disk being present (dvd
movies). Programs I have capable of running dvd are winDVD 4,
intervideo home theatre and windows media player. Would anyone here
have any idea how I can solve this problem.

If you are having the same problem that I had a while back, you will have to
purchase the rights (and download a copy) of a DVD decoder program. The one
that came with your computer/DVD drive has expired.

This is another wonderful innovation that Microsoft has dreamed up to nickel
and dime us to death. This is also a reason why I am moving to Linux
eventually. Not that you wouldn't have to buy the decoder codex for a Linux
system, but Microsoft is the one that dreams this stuff up. Other equally
inane things such as removing the save a web page on disk so that you can
recall it instantly when needed, and then letting the ISP's charge you $5 a
month to obtain the feature that used to come free with Windows Explorer.

You can buy the codec (decoder) for less than $20 on the web from various
outlets. Go to the Microsoft website for a list of vendors.
