DVD Drives: Something That Doesn't Hang Explorer?

Seems tb designed behavior that, when I insert a DVD into my
drive, Explorer comes to a halt until the system is happy with
the inserted DVD.

The Question:

Are there DVD drives/controllers available that somehow offload
whatever is hanging Explorer so that Explorer continues to
respond even while the DVD is being opened?

If so, what would I Google on?

You know, I have about 15 XP machines here and I don't think any of them
do this anymore. Say do you get that window when you insert a disc into
the drive what you want to do with the disc? I don't get those since I
turned that off with TweakUI.
