DVD driver issues

I have Windows XP SP2 and my Pioneer 104 DVD-ROM is recognized, and it knows
what type of media is in the drive. when i try any operation that reads the
disc (i.e. "open", "search", "properties"), Explorer promptly freezes up.
before, when i had Win 98, the drive worked perfectly. using the Win 98
disc, i booted up in DOS, and it recognized, and read the media in the drive,
even DVD's. I need to figure out how to force XP to use the "oakcdrom.sys"
driver that DOS uses. I also have a CD burner that works perfectly.

Go to Start > Run and type in: devmgmt.msc
and press the Enter key. After the Device Manager
window opens, scroll down to your DVD drive,
click the "+" to expand, then right-click on
your DVD Drive and select Uninstall. You will
be prompted to reboot your computer, so reboot
and Windows XP will reinstall the DVD Drive.
