DVD Drive Question

hi

I have a DVD with files on what someone made up for work on a website im
doing.

Why is it that some drives read some disks and some dont?

On my 2nd computer which has a slower DVD Samsung drive in (4x) it reads the
disk fine.
On my computer i use the most its got a newer Sony (16x) dvd drive and it
doesnt find the disk.

what makes some disks recognised in some drives and not others?

When i tested both with a Only Fools and Horses DVD i got both read and
played that ok.

I have no idea what is causing your problem, but I can tell you how I can
duplicate it - if I am not careful.

I have Roxio Easy Media Creator and am using their Drag to Disk component
(packet writing software). This allows me to use a CD or DVD as if it were a
hard drive. After I copy a bunch of files to a disk I go to eject the disk.
I am given an option to eject the disk and make it readable in "any" PC. If
I chose NOT to do this, people who also have Roxio installed (or Nero with
InCD) on their computer "will" be able to see the files. If a person does
NOT have Roxio on their PC, they will "not" be able to see those files. The
Disk has not been closed out to allow it to happen.

This may be what has happened in your case. The CD/DVD was created with
either Roxio or Nero (similar module) using their "packet writing" software,
but you have neither of these programs on your computer.
