DVD drive not reedind DVD's

I'm having a problem with my Hitachi GD7000 DVD drive. When i put a DVD in the drive it does not recognize it, it says please insert a disk into drive. It only does this with DVD's when I put in a Cd (audio or data) it reads it fine. I have tried updating the driver, as the problem started when I upgraded my OS to windows XP, I have Win DVD on my system and tried installing other trial versions of DVD software (Divx & PowerDVD) they did not help.

What is your chipset?
I started hitting that problem (DVD+/- RW drive will read and write data,
but NOT play a movie DVD disk - with PowerDVD 4.0 {which worked with this
drive, with older 845 chipset motherboard I replaced}).
My new motherboard is an ATI 9100IGP chipset.

I somehow got it working once, then it went away again. I dont think it is
XP Pro SP1, but the onboard video.
