DVD Drive is missing

The BIOS settings for the secondary slave are PIO AUTO and UDMA AUTO.
the settings for the Master are the same as the Slave.
The Master and the Slave are set NOT by Cable select.
The cable has 80 wires.

Since you indicated these settings work for earlier O/S, I would
suspect bad MoBo chipset drivers.
You could try and force the settings to NOT use UDMA, just as a test.

I am out of ideas.

I have decided to quit pursuing any further and to settle with the
method 2 solution in MS KB article I mentioned in my original post.
Thanks anyway for your trying to help me.
